Diamond T was a low-volume truck manufacturer located in Chicago, Illinois who produced trucks from 1911 to 1966. The “T” in the name was for Charles A. Tilt, who founded the company in 1905 to produce automobile chassis for custom body builders. They produced their first truck in 1911 and thereafter concentrated on truck production only. Diamond T remained independent until 1958, when they were sold to White Motor Company. White continued to operate Diamond T until their final models in 1966, after which they were combined with another White acquisition, Reo, as Diamond Reo, with production in Reo’s facility in Michigan. During its 57 years, Diamond T trucks were highly regarded, although they did not produce mechanical components such as engines, transmissions, and axles, using components from specialty suppliers. When Diamond T trucks were redesigned for 1950, they even began sourcing cabs from International Harvester, and later after the acquisition by White, cabs were sourced from various White divisions such as Autocar and Reo. First Gear has modeled their one edition of Diamond T trucks as a 1955 medium duty truck, probably a model 520. These used the International Harvester “R” cab and were normally powered by a Hercules six cylinder gasoline engine. First Gear has offered their Diamond T model truck in several body styles, including wrecker, stake body, box body, and bottler body. The First Gear Diamond T wrecker was probably over-produced and appears in a huge number of colors and logos, some historical but many as unhistorical souvenir or promotional items.Read full review
