This pedal can produce a wide array of tones. It has a very smooth and fat sub octave tone. I've heard it described as "pillowy". It's also good for 8-bit Nintendo music type distorted sounds. I find this pedal more creative than functional, as the tracking is not so great. If I need accuracy, I use a Boss OC-3.

To date, I've had no issues with this pedal. I like it's durability and easy controls. The knobs have a great feel to them and are aesthetically pleasing. The only draw back is the true bypass switch. It's extremely loud for a pedal when clicking it on. When adding it to a chain of pedals, it can be very obvious when turning on. Especially when you use a delay. Overall, I'm happy with it and suggest it to anyone in need of an octave pedal. The price is great for the quality and what it has to offer.
Really cool for glitchy deep sub tones. My only criticism is that I wish it had a master volume so you could boost it. Turning it on, there is a noticeable volume drop. You can work around it but that option would make this pedal perfect.

Octave Multiplexer was one of the first octavers on the market. Early 70's units had large enclosures, but luckily for us in the 00's EXH rehoused most of its effects into smaller diecast aluminium boxes. Current Multiplexers are basically the same as the old 70's units - just with a different enclosure size. Octave Multiplexer is analog octaver. Today you can find many digital octavers, there are more digital pitch shifter models than analog octavers. The difference is in the sound, and I'm not going to describe it. Just go to youtube and see some demos. But out of the several analog octavers on the market EHX has some peculiar features that make it stand apart. Analog octavers are very limited devices, they cannot track chords and work on single note lines only. If you play a chord, analog octavers get confused and start jumping from one note to another. Of course, this may be just what you need. All octavers that feature polyphonic tracking are digital. Polyphonic tracking is very useful, but I cannot stand the digital quality of the sound. I've tried all analog octavers I could get my hands on and watched demos of the ones I couldn't try, and finally settled on Octave Multiplexer. Why? First, it's cheap. Second, in one setting (sub switch on) it produces a very natural sounding low octave, which sounds more like an actual acoustic instrument than the rest of analog octavers. Boss OC-2, for example, sounds more like an analog synthesizer. You may like it, I didn't. The rest about the Octave Multiplexer is less inspiring. I find EHX units to be less durable than BOSS and MXR. The plastic power socket is board mounted and is the first thing to break. The nuts get loose. EHX are still very durable, but under heavy gigging they get loose. My BOSS pedals do not tend to break up, and I'm talking about 20 years on a pedalboard without a need to tighten a single nut. There are plenty of sound shaping possibilities on the Multiplexer. However, not all of them inspire me. You may get approximation of Blue Box madness (with a fuzz in chain) and other funky noises - along with clear octave down tones. That's what I like about EHX - they make devices that are fuckupable. Sorry for the rude word, I've learned it from sir Paul McCartney when he was describing his preference for the old tube equipment. In short, this is a classic analog device, it will get you the most natural octave down and some bonus noises, mono tracking and black-and-white graphics.Read full review
What a great machine. This has such good control. Both the high and bass filter knobs are easy to control. The blend works very well with both delivering mild to medium sounding effects. as a bass player, I really like pedals that do not over effect the sound. This machine does the job perfectly. Thank you.
