I got this product for the Optical inputs as my older plasma TV has only an optical audio out AND it had phono inputs!!. The fact that this received had so much more was a bonus. I still have a record collection and a good turntable so I needed the phono inputs and finding a receiver that had both phono and optical inputs at a great price was a challenge. The DSP features are a nice touch especially when watching a concert Blu-ray or DVD using the Rock Concert DSP setting. You need the remote with this rig! It can be operated from the front panel, but is more cumbersome.
The Yamaha RX V995 is a nice Receiver. A good combination of Surround Sound and Music playing. Nice amplifier delivering at least 100 Watts per channel, while keeping a cool operational temperature, this unit is able to please selective audiences. One minor " Con " is the lack of pre/out jumpers and/or a Monitor function to hook up an equalizer for those who enjoy movies or music sound processed to specific audio frequency settings. Nevertheless, a beautiful design, easy to operate and well built. Its remote control is not any less impressive. Very nice piece allowing access to the majority of options and features that come with the RX V995 receiver. And there are tons of them. A nice package. Recommended.
This is a SUBERB system. I had the exact same receiver and have had it since the late 90s so I was aware of its capabilities. I was very weery of buying this old used model but when I opened it it looked brand new and it looked clean both inside and out. No dust inside the system. Viewed my first movies on it today and it works just awesome! I love this particular model that Yamaha made back in the 90s. They did not hold back with this model. I bought this system brand new with the awesome klipsh speakers at that time...Its a 25-30 year old model but is still a remarkable sound system.

The RX-V995 is one of my most powerful Yamaha receivers sounding just as strong as the more expensive RX-V2700. This is an older pre HDMI unit with most of the controls being on the front panel so it's easy to set up even if you don't have the giant original remote controller. The RX-V995 sounds best in stereo mode with incredible dynamic range easily pushing a pair of Klipsch RF-3 II's to furniture penetrating sonic levels with the volume at about 35%. The panel lights on these tend to go dim after a number of years. However all functions can be displayed if you connect a TV screen to the 'monitor out' jack on the receiver. I love my RX-V995 and wouldn't sell it for anywhere near what I paid for it(less than $100)!

I wanted an inexpensive solution for my outdoor patio and this fit the bill. It sounds great with my Yamaha AW570 speakers. I just ordered a subwoofer and can't wait to rock the back yard.
