An exceptional original René Lalique "Merles" (Blackbirds) vase, model No. 1071, designed in 1931. One of Lalique's most admired Art Deco creations, this impressive vase beautifully combines naturalistic bird sculpture with the clean geometric lines that define his mature artistic style.

The lower section is richly moulded with a group of blackbirds perched amongst fruiting branches, all enhanced by the original blue patina which beautifully highlights the intricate relief. Rising above is a tall, elegant body with deep vertical fluting, giving the vase remarkable light reflection and architectural presence. Crafted from moulded crystal with polished cut details, the contrast between the frosted decoration and clear crystal demonstrates the exceptional quality of René Lalique's craftsmanship.

The base is signed R. Lalique France, confirming production during René Lalique's lifetime.

This is a highly desirable collector's piece and one of the more sought-after figural vase designs produced by René Lalique. Examples retaining their original blue patina and presented in excellent condition are becoming increasingly difficult to acquire.

Condition:Presented in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs noted. The original blue patina remains attractive and well preserved. The signature is clearly visible on the base.
