This VIBRANT cotton 1870's/1880's red & green album / sampler quilt is all hand appliqued and hand quilted, with a swag border. The blocks, similar to the early Baltimore album quilts, have unusual appliqued details, such as pineapples, leaves, berries, feathers, fleur-de-lis, and other cutout designs.It measures 78" X 78" and is in excellent condition, with the occasional light age spot and no wear. The quilt feels strong and sturdy overall and the colors are unusually vibrant.
There are straight line and grid designs quilted throughout at an even 7-8 stitches to the inch.
The back and hand stitched, rolled binding are white, and the batting is thin. You can see cotton seed residue inside when you hold the quilt up to the light.
The REMARKABLE DESIGN, DENSE APPLIQUE, and GREAT CONDITION make this outstanding presentation quilt stand out -- it would make a terrific wall hanging!
