In the height of Imperial Rome, a great wooden coliseum was constructed to invite all of the champions around the universe to come and battle for greatness. Each gladiator is represented by their fighting Flag, showcasing all the champions in the arena. The Imperial Roman Coliseum Chess Set is a handcrafted work of functional art where the gladiators battle — and this Marvel vs. DC edition raises the stakes to a universe-level confrontation.

The perimeter is lined with character banner panels — Marvel on one side, DC on the other — Spider-Man, Captain America, Thor, Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Hulk, and Thanos on one flank; Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern, and more on the other. Every banner is individually framed in antiqued gold architectural columns with pyramid stud detailing, battlements running the full top rail, and ornate claw feet anchoring the corners. The playing surface is a custom designed and inlaid Italian vitreous mosaic tile checkerboard in gold and white with 3" squares, bordered by a grey inlay that sets it apart from the colosseum surround. When the lights go down, the internal LED system illuminates the banner panels from behind — the glow between columns gives the whole board an arena-at-night energy that no photograph fully captures.

Each side of this board tells a story. Marvel's greatest — Iron Man as King, Captain Marvel as Queen, Doctor Strange and Captain America as Knights, Thor and Thanos as Bishops, Spider-Man and Hulk as Castles, with Black Widow, Black Panther, Deadpool, Hawkeye, Cable, Vision, Wolverine, and Venom holding the front line — face off against the full DC roster across a battlefield worthy of both universes.
