I purchased this large Chinese calligraphy scroll while in China in April 2002. It's large, bold, and impressive and makes a major statement in a room. Gold flakes are scattered on the surface, drawing one's eyes into the artwork. The size is 77" high x 31" wide. The rods at the top and bottom are 24" long. The storage box is included.
I don't know anything about the Chinese language, but a friend who knows some Chinese told me that the general meaning of this calligraphic message is "Celebration".
In 2002 when I was in China, it was still rather undeveloped. The main mode of transportation was still bicycles. Automobiles were scarce. Seeing an American at this time was rather rare; I was asked several times if someone could take a photograph next to me.
Art galleries were almost nonexistent. Therefore, I believe that this scroll was likely painted by a talented artist because there really wasn't much of a market for any type of art at the time. That is, only a talented artist would likely make the effort to create an artwork knowing that he/she would likely be able to sell it.
