Original 12-field Key Master setup from The Little Mermaid (1989) consisting of a production cel of Carlotta on the original key master background. The setup comes from the memorableLes Poissonssequence in which Chef Louis chases Sebastian around his kitchen, destroying it. Carlotta comes in at the end and chastises Louis for the mess (which she will presumably need to clean up). This paintingsold at the Art of the Little Mermaid sale at Sotheby's on December 15, 1990, the year after the release of the film. The background was considered so intricately detailed that it warranted a two-page spread in the sale catalogue. This was an honor given to just 8 other of the best pieces.
Cartoons today are done by computer, and hand-painted animation art is no longer used in the making of most cartoons. There were a total of about 1,100 production background produced to make The Little Mermaid,and only about 300 were released for sale by Disney. How many of these have survived the past 33 years is unknown.Setup comes matted, framed and ready to display. Frame measures 19.5"x17". Sotheby's CoA included.
