Antique 1910 Bezalel Silver Necklace Palestine Israel Jewish Warsaw Poland:
$3200.00
yet sturdy and beautifully made silver filigree necklace. 19 inches in length. In custom velvet fitted case, which the inside has the emblem of the Bezalel Society of Warsaw imprinted on the silk lining. The Ten Commandments shaped pendant features the Hebrew verse from Psalms 137:5 "If I forget thee O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning", and a five-branched candelabrum with the Russian import "84" mark, even though this is made of 925 sterling. The reverse side of the pendant states "Bezalel". Dates to between 1910 and 1914.
As shown in the museum book photo, the Warsaw Bezalel Society was established in 1910. In 1914 World War One broke out, so this cannot date later than 1914, because in 1920 Poland became an independent state with new silver hallmarks: the Russian 84 import mark was discarded. Having a Bezalel School object in a fitted box with the Warsaw Bezalel Society emblem on it is extremely rare; I have only seen another example in a London sale in 2005, where a silver filigree Bezalel menorah was found in an attic in Europe and it sold at sale for 17,625 British Pounds, as seen in the photo.
