Offered is a spectacular example of Fredrick Cooper's artistry which began in Chicago in 1923. There he began began mixing media of brass, fabric, glass and wood to create exquisitely designed lamps that matched the swift innovations in architecture and have proven to last the test of time. Today, Fredrick Cooper stands for superlative design and craftsmanship. This particular exampleshows not only his craftsmanship but his penchant for humor and whimsy. This lamp is a companion to its related "Polly by night" table lamp created around the same time. Both are rare. They are part of our growing collection of Cooper MCM lighting. Others are included on this site. The floor lamp is a bamboo-styled parrot stand offering a perch for "Polly" and an extension up to the shade and two standard size sockets with pull chain switches. The sockets carry the iconic Cooper trade mark. The full size parrot sits on a bamboo cross beam which supports an accessory chandelier size base bulb inside a dome that could be a bird cage or a simple lantern. Update: As it sometimes happens in the Polly at Night line, the metal braid that encircles the base "popped off" and has been reconnected to the by my refurbisher. Some collectors remove the braid altogether and you can do that without substantially changing the value since the "money" shot is the parrot on the bamboo branch. FYI
