WW1 (1916) British "CHIEF RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION ENGINEER" (CRCE) - TRENCH MAP of LILLE. The map has trench corrections to 1/5/16 and has revisions taken from French 'Plan Directeurs' ('Master Plan' maps).

With responsibility for the planning, construction and maintenance of the rail supply links to the Western Front, it's clear why the CRCE would have a copy of this map. Lille was an obvious strategic target and as it had been under German control since the beginning of the war there was little damage to its rail network. The map clearly shows the major rail routes around Lille heading to the North, East, South and West. There was also a significant tramway system in operation judging by the Tramways Garage in square K6.

Measures 90cm x 68cm.

Bears a raised museum logo (with archive serial number) and is in excellent condition as explained below...

This map is one of many acquired from a private collection whichwas previously purchased in 2002 from The Imperial War Museum. Each item was heldin the museum's duplicate archives and deemed surplus. Almost all have IWMstock numbers or stamps etc and many have been linen backed for long termconservation and storage purposes. Significant numbers were unused surplus stockwhen originally transferred to the museum and have never even been folded. Assuch, many of these original WW1 maps are in 'time capsule' condition, andthere are numerous 'Secret' or 'Confidential' maps relating to major battlesamongst them. I will be working my way through the collection in due course.

POSTAGE - Will be sent rolled in a brand new cardboard postal tube. I will be using Royal Mail's Guaranteed Delivery by 1pm Service which will adequately cover the insurance cost of the item. This is fully tracked and requires a signature on receipt. Missed deliveries may result in the buyer having to rearrange a delivery date as per Royal Mail's instructions.

International parcels will be fully tracked. The seller reserves the right to cancel any sale to destinations which cannot guarantee a fully tracked route from door to door.
