A very rare tintype of a boy playing a banjo, identified by a taped old note on the back: Thomas Glynn, World's Greatest Banjoist Nana Mahoney's Brother Died at Age 25 Thomas E. Glynn, born in Maine in 1872, was a famous banjo player, teacher and composer. He was a child prodigy and grew up to be commonly regarded as the country's best banjo player. He died from typhoid fever on May 29, 1897 at only 25, while visiting a friend in Massachusetts. This is the only photo I was able to find of him as a child. This tintype is about 3.5" x 2.5". There are light to medium soft bends throughout the image, and some tape residue on the four edges, from tape that is holding the note onto the back. I know from experience a restorer can remove this if it's an issue, but like the bends, I don't find that it detracts in person.

Boxed shipping.
