About: The annual "Treehouse of Horror"Halloween episodes began in 1990 Season 2 of The Simpsonsand have run annually for 35-years/seasons totaling 35 episodes of Treehouse of Horror. Cels from these episodes are identified by I, II, III, IV, V, VI, etc up to XXXV. This Production Cel is from the first everEpisode I of Treehouse of Horror in 1990and is the first of the three stories told in that episode called Bad Dream Houseabout a Haunted House, thereby launching the annual Halloween tradition of Treehouse of Horror in The Simpsons cannon. Refer to the included photos for historical breakdown and significance of this episode and cel. It appears that a similar cel from this episode is being held by the Library of Congress due to its significance in Animation History, though the attached screenshots are the only verification I can find.
It is difficult enough to find an early season's cel featuring the entire Simpsons familylikely because collectors don't let them go, and likewise difficult to find a Treehouse of Horrorproduction cel, some of the most valuable and collectible being from this first episode in 1990, but to obtain this combination of elements in one cel and from the first story of the first Treehouse of Horror episode in the 35-year series of episodes compounds the rarity, and therefore to the right collector a highly valued and worthy addition to their collection. The Simpsons is already historically significant as the longest running animation show, and this Production Cel Setup is a pivotal moment in their beloved and highly collectible Treehouse of Horror series of episodes.
I'm in no rush to sell, as it will only grow more valuable in time, many of these cels doubling in value in the last 2-3 years, and it fits nicely in my collection for now. It will be a great addition to any collection.
Cel Details: This is a Multi-Cel layout, each character (not sure about Maggie) on their own cel. Cels are in good condition with normal handling wear. On partial inspection I saw one staple on bottom edge of cels to hold them in place - not uncommon. Featured is the 20th Century Fox seal. The frame is older and not fancy but works with the haunting Halloween theme. No point in me reframing as any buyer likely will have their personal preference. Plexiglass is excellent! See photos for condition. Background is reproduction print background for presentation. See side-by-side screenshot from episode. In the original scene, Bart's eyes are looking around. When compiling this setup, the studio chose this particular eye position.
