The pendant for this necklace is a pipe measuring: 6.5 x 4.7 x 4 cm. (2 5/8" x 1 7/8" x 1 1/2"), that I made from a hand-finished tagua nut (vegetable ivory).On the front, I inlaid a 25 x 18 mm. unakite cabochon.On the back, is the pipe.
The pipe's bowl measures approximately : 2.5 x 2 cm. (1 x 3/4").From the mouthpiece to the center of the bowl measures: 4.7 cm. (1 5/8").The bore is approximately .5 cm (3/16").I filled any small cracks inside, due to germination, with non-toxic bentonnite clay.
Like a Meershaum pipe, the tagua nut will absorb the tars released from smoking, and will become a dark, honey amber color with use.
For the neckpiece, I did macrame with sage green, forest green and milk chocolate brown hemp twine; using: rain forest jasper ovals, jade rounds, bone skull beads and rounds, buffalo horn rounds and rondelles, wooden rondelles, glass crow beads, and a wooden donut .
The length is adjustable, from: 52 cm. (20 1/2"), up to: up to 116 cm. (46").Just slide the lock knot to desired length.
This necklace is made for people of all sizes to wear any length.If you would like it shorter, you can specify the length desired at time of purchase (no less than 60 cm. or 24" so it will still fit over your head), and I can easily shorten it.
The last picture shows a raw tagua nut, so you have a better idea what I start with.Each nut has its own unique pattern, similar to a fingerprint.Tagua nuts are a renewable product of the rain forests of Central and South America.They are a viable alternative to animal ivory.
The necklace also comes with extra screens and a storage pouch for safe keeping.
