Artist Victor and Edwin Sulca's biography(I have combined the biography with Edwin Sulca (son) as there is very little documentation of both his father, Victor Sulca or his grandfather Ambrosio Sulca due to the war torn country they lived in.)

Victor Sulca is a second generation master weaver, who taught Edwin Sulca (third generation), from the city of Ayacucho in Peru. Both father and son made tapestries that are made of Peruvian sheep wool, hand dyed using plants and insects, and are woven in the “punto arwi” – a pre-Incan reversible technique. He inherited the wisdom and teaching of the grandfather Ambrosio Sulca. Both Victor and Edwin were awarded the national distinction of Great Master in Peru in 1994.

Edwin Sulca has been exhibiting his work and poetry since 1979, both throughout Peru and abroad (in Brazil, Ecuador, Spain, Switzerland, and the United States). He was the artist-in-residence at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA in 2000, and in Williams College in 2005. Mr. Sulca has exhibited at Harvard University, Phillips Exeter

Academy, and in several galleries. Many of Mr. Sulca’s designs are stories of the ancient history and the recent suffering of the people of Ayacucho. He incorporates both indigenous iconography and contemporary symbols. Ayacucho bore the brunt of the violent conflict between the government and the guerrilla movement Shining Path in during the 1980s.

After surviving more than twenty years of civil war, Mr. Sulca’s tapestries contribute to the resurgence of color and song. The tapestries succeed for their alluring shapes and colors, but their real beauty is in the stories they carry. Every tapestry displays a drive for the universal, without generalizing the circumstance of tradition. They are clearly meant for sharing.”

This unparalleled masters [uses] a precise combination of threads of different thickness and tones to design human figures, animals, plants, and landscapes, creating incredible and surprising illusions that will surely be admired wherever he travels and exhibits his exceptional weavings.” – El Comercio (Peru) “Edwin Sulca Lagos, master of the textile arts, embodies his dreams and hopes and those of his beloved town of Ayacucho in tapestries which relay the fortitude, pain, and dreams of his city. His tapestries elevate words to figures using Andean symbolism and life stories, and they embody these poems into masterpieces which transcend the Andean.
