Heiwaya Kimono Hand-woven Hakata Ori Plant-Dyed Silk Unused Fabric, 448cm Key Features

This is a high-quality, unused silk obi (kimono sash) measuring approximately 448 cm in length and 30.5 cm in width. Crafted from pure silk, this obi is in excellent condition with no signs of wear, stains, or blemishes, as it has never been tied or used.

The obi features traditional Chikugo Hakata weaving, a renowned textile produced in Fukuoka Prefecture. It showcases intricate geometric patterns inspired by Buddhist ritual objects such as the Dokkō and flower dishes, woven during the Edo period when Chikuzen domain lord Kuroda Nagamasa presented it to the shogunate. The weaving technique, called "Okie-ori," employs 30 to 60 fine warp threads, resulting in a firm, glossy, and durable fabric that is easy to tie and maintains its shape well.

Additionally, the obi incorporates natural dyeing techniques by Kōmori Hisashi, a master dyer born in 1928 in Chikuzen Akizuki. With over 60 years of experience, Kōmori is highly regarded for his innovative and high-quality plant-based dyes. His work has been designated as an intangible cultural asset, and each piece is unique, as the same color cannot be exactly replicated.

This obi is a rare and valuable example of traditional Japanese craftsmanship, perfect for collectors or those seeking an authentic, high-end accessory for formal occasions.
