$1500.00
Incredible original March 7, 1965 UPI photo features John Lewis and other marchers being beaten on the approach to Selma's Pettus Bridge. This photo is particularly remarkable as it by chance captures the very moment John Lewis was beaten by an officer with a Billy club.
This photo has the special provenance of heralding from the Richard Harris African American Experience Collection.
Excellent condition.
8. x 10 inches.
United Press International credit ink stamp and handwritten notations on reverse.
The only other similar photo (different angle) I have seen offered was purchased by me March 21, 2024 at Swann’s sale (Lot 144; screenshot of that sale provided above) where it sold for $2200 plus 25% buyers premium ($2750 total). I’ve decided I really don’t need two so am offering this photo here. If I didn’t have the other, I would buy this one! (And did!)
This photo will be sent via Registered mail for extra safety. Registered may take an extra couple days, but will arrive safely 100% of the time without fail.
