Cel and reproduction background are in excellent condition, there are no condition issues to report. This is a fantastic piece from one of the most iconic scenes from the film, it doesn’t get much better than this shot right here if you are a Little Mermaid collector.Other Information:
In the previous scenes, Ariel had just made a pact with Medusa and transformed from
a mermaid into a human. She begins to drown but she is pulled up and onto the shoreline by her friends Sebastian and Flounder. Just as she begins to adjust to her new form, Prince Eric strolls along the shore with his dog Max. The exuberant canine picks up a scent and tracks down Ariel and her friends. His master gives chase and comes upon Ariel resting upon a small rock outcropping. He begins a one sided conversation, because she is unable to speak. As she attempts to communicate using body language, she slips off the rock into his arms.
In this specific cel, the camera pulls in and both of them lock eyes as Eric says,
“Gee, you must have really been through something”. In this specific cel he is voicing the
word “been”.
The cel is matched with a scan from the original background. This setup was originally sold at Sotheby’s sale in New York City on December 15th, 1990.
A very rare piece...one of the nicest you’ll find. Typically only found in high-end
