Antique Fine Rare 19th Century Large Carriage Clock A La Japonaise By Achille Brocot 1817-1875 ParisTop quality interesting rare clock!Fully marked Stamped with the Achille Brocot trademark ( frequently a star with initials A B) on the back plate of the movement.His workshop is famously associated with high end mantel clocks, his carriage clocks are highly prized by collectors for their expetional mechanical complexity and decorative artistry.Case crafted from fine gilt bronze.Unlike standard glass sided clocks, Brocots works often incorpoarated exquisite Japanese style (Japoniseme) silvered and gilt metal panels.Beutiful silvered birds decoration !Achille Brocot (1817-74) was the eldest son of Louis-Gabriel Brocot. He carried on his fathers business in Paris. He patented several improvements in escapements and also invented the adjustable pendulum spring suspension which bears his name.Louis Achille Brocot (11 July 1817 – 19 January 1878) was a French clockmaker and amateur mathematician.He is known for his discovery (contemporaneously with, but independently of, German number theorist Moritz Stern) of the Stern–Brocot tree, a mathematical structure useful in approximating real numbers by rational numbers; this sort of approximation is an important part of the design of gear ratios for clocks.Several improvements in clock design were attributed to Brocot. He invented the "Brocot Suspension", which enabled time keeping to be regulated by altering the length of the pendulum suspension spring by a key turned in the dial.He also made many practical horological innovations including refinement of his father Louis-Gabriel's Brocot escapement and the development of clocks with perpetual calendar mechanisms.
