The pendant for this necklace is a pipe measuring: 7 x 4 x 3.2 cm. (2 3/4" x 1 3/4" x 1 3/8"), made from a vegetable ivory, palm ivory nut that I hand finished.I inlaid a 25 x 18 mm. unakite cabochon on the front of the pendant.On the back of the pendant is a pipe.
The pipe's bowl measures approximately: 2 x 1.5 cm. (3/4" x 1/2").The bore is approximately .5 cm (1/4").The length from the center of the bowl to the mouthpiece is: 4.8 cm. (1 7/8").I filled any small cracks inside, due to germination, with non-toxic bentonnite clay.
Like a Meershaum pipe, the tagua nut will absorb the tars released from smoking, and will become a dark, honey color with use.
For the neckpiece, I strung: rain forest jasper ovals; tiger's eye, goldstone, bone and wooden rounds; and jade rondelles; on 7 strand beading wire that I knotted to four strands of sturdy, artificial sinew that I twisted into cordage.
The length is adjustable; from: 23.5 cm. 9 1/4"), up to: 108 cm. (43").Just slip it over your head and slide the tagua nut, lock bead to desired length.
This necklace is made for people of all sizes to wear any length.If you would like it shorter, you can specify the length desired at time of purchase (no less than 60 cm. or 24" so it will still fit over your head), and I can easily shorten it.
The necklace also comes with extra screens and its own storage pouch for safekeeping.
The last picture shows a raw tagua nut, so you have a better idea what I start with.Each nut has its own unique pattern, similar to a fingerprint.Tagua nuts are a renewable product of the rain forests of Central and South America.They are a viable alternative to animal ivory.
