Antique 1825 Fuseé Wind #4 Singing Bird Box Cage w/ Gold Tree Rochat, Bruguier:
$19995.00

Being offered is this very rare and early 1820's fusee singing bird mechanism, to have been recased in the late 1800's & having a modern glass dome.
Mechanism utilizes round bellows and an unique speed regulator. The bottom plate is incised with the single tulip mark along with the serial number 4. The Tulip mark is associated with Freres Rochat, and perhaps this movement is his work. Looking at the book Flights of Fancy, on pages 289-291 you will see a beautiful bird cage and the associated movements that is attributed to Charles Abraham Bruguier and dated 1830. Looking at page 292 there is another image of a different bird cage and mechanism dating from 1825. The offered mechanism has identical features regarding the circular bellows, whistle tubing and speed governor. Research indicates this could have been made by Freres Rochat pre 1825, or perhaps by Charles Abraham Bruguier post 1825.At some later time (around the turn of the century) the wooden, gold gilded and hand painted base was made to house this movement for display. It was very tastefully done and is in good original condition. Mounted in the front is an antique fusee clock from the early 1800's. It looks complete but has not been tested. As the original dome was missing, I had a replacement made to protect and display this charming little fellow. The case measures 11 1/2" tall overall, and the base is 8" in diameter.
The movement includes the original gold tree with applied paste on branches. The bird retains some of it's original iridescent hummingbird feathers. When actuated, it turns it's body, flaps it's wings and turns it's head from side to side as it opens & closes it's "bone" beaks and sings. The mechanism has more complications than needed just for these actions, and originally would have been in a very elaborate cage with numerous functions other that just that of the bird itself. Bird cages of this age and quality have been know to sell starting at 250k and some selling for several million dollars. Perhaps there is someone out there in the universe with the cage this movement belongs to and they once again can be reunited.
I have numerous pictures of both the case and mechanism that are available if requested.
Please refer to the pictures for details.
