Since its launch in 2009, the Montblanc Great Characters Limited Edition has been paying tribute to individuals who have left an indelible mark on history. The latest edition celebrates the cultural legacy of Walt Disney, the American filmmaker, entrepreneur and innovator who created many unforgettable characters, including the beloved Mickey Mouse. Created in collaboration with The Walt Disney Company, the design of the Montblanc Great Characters Limited Edition Walt Disney is inspired by the legacy of one of the most memorable filmmakers in the history of entertainment.
The shape of the Great Characters Walt Disney Special Edition is inspired by the monorail at Disneyland Park. The pen’s clip is a nod to the smoke stack on the steamboat in Steamboat Willie, Disney’s first animated short film starring Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. The black, red and yellow color combination of the writing instrument reflects the traditionally associated colors that represent Mickey. The precious resin cap and barrel are decorated with various “Hidden Mickeys”, and is inspired by the unofficial phenomenon where fans hunt for the silhouette of the character hidden throughout Disney Parks, properties, and resorts around the globe. The coordinates on the cone are a reference to the location of Walt Disney’s uncle’s garage in Los Angeles, California, where he made various inventions including the innovative camera stand he constructed with his brother. The Au 585 solid gold rhodium-coated nib of the Special Edition features a drawing of Mickey Mouse, while the cap top features the engraved signature of Walt Disney.
With a limitation number commemorating the year of Walt Disney’s birth, the Great Characters Walt Disney Limited Edition 1901 is garnished with the Multiplane camera in lacquer on the cap. The barrel features a scanimation, a flickering Mickey Mouse animation that appears and disappears when the upper tube is rotated. The engravings on the cone pay tribute to the release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Disney’s first full-length animated feature film, with its technical specifications (1.33:1, 83 MIN) and the date and place of the world premiere (21/12/1937, LA). The Au 750 solid gold rhodium-coated nib is decorated with an image of Mickey Mouse that was featured in the opening credits of early Disney animated films.This set includes the Great Characters Edition Fountain Pen, the Ink Bottle and Fine Stationary Journal. It also includes the exclusive book that was used in the Montblanc boutiques to showcase this piece. These pens are extremely rare as less than 100 were made worldwide. This Great Characters Edition Disney pen was one of the first 40 ever made and they are now completely sold out. The set also includes the MATCHING NUBMER Limited edition Fountain pen. These pens do not come from the factory as a matching set and is nearly impossible to acquire a matching set. I am not aware of any other matching sets exist anywhere in the world. The Limited Edition ballpoint is also included, but is not a matching number. The Great Characters edition and the Limited edition pens are factory sealed and have never been opened or touched. There were a total of 1901 Limited edition Disney pens ever made.
Finally the set is rounded out with all three special edition pens, these are not sealed as they do not come sealed from the factory. The special edition Disney pens include a Fountain pen, ballpoint and rollerball.
