climate of the southwestern desert! This Rembrandt is one of the rarest and
nicest preserved floor lamps of its kind and emerges from a glorious mid century
estate a stone's throw from Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West!Rembrandt designed a collection of lamps around a "Gazelle" motif around 1952.
This gazelle has become an iconic symbol of the early mid century and the
"gazelle series" has become one of the most popular collected Rembrandt
lamp among mid century decorators and aficionados. This lamp - the
"Gazelle Club Lamp" is the rarest of all of them and is, literally, one of a
handful of surviving examples. To many interior decorators this lamp is
the Holy Grail of Rembrandt mid century lighting! For good reasons! The style on this lamp is perfect! It captures the avant-garde sculptural
movement of the fifties with the minimalist design ethos. Satin black enamel
is utterly gorgeous and brings out the purity and clean lines of the design!
The squiggle fiberglass shade is an iconic mid century motif that was all
pervasive in the early mid century modern period - when designers
truly broke away from the past!The gazelle Rembrandt designers sculpted ranks up there with some of the
most classic ever penned. A male gazelle with upright horns is depicted
in a spectacularly stylized manner. For modernist decoration, this gazelle
is the equivalent of Roll's Royce's "Spirit of Ecstasy" hood mascot!
It evokes an emotional response as a symbol of dynamic strength and style.This lamp has been perfectly preserved in the desert climate. The enamel
is wonderful, with only the lightest of wear. The fiberglass shade is in very
good shape with only some threading missing. The shade threads onto socket
of swing arm. The socket, cord and electrics are all working as they did in 1952!Rembrandt billed itself as the creator of lighting "Masterpieces."
