Namiki Emperor Kisshomon Birds in Flight Maki-e Fountain PenThe Namiki Emperor Kisshomon Birds in Flight Maki-e Fountain Pen is a rare and exquisite example of Maki-e art, using raden, gold dust, and other precious materials. It was made in very limited quantities in the early 1990's. It features the "Kisshomon" motif, which means auspicious birds, using the advanced Togadashi-maki-e technique. This is a style of Maki-e that dates back to the 7th century. The pen has a black ebonite body with a stunning design of birds in flight among clouds and flowers. The birds are made with raden, which is a technique that uses thin layers of abalone shells to create a shimmering effect. The clouds and flowers are made with gold dust and other colors, creating a contrast with the black background. The pen has a gold-plated clip and a cap with the Namiki logo on the top. The pen has a huge #50 single-tone Medium tipping size 18k solid gold nib with a special inscription. It can use any bottled fountain pen ink with the eyedropper filling system. The pen comes with a wooden box, a bottle of ink, and a certificate of authenticity.
