'NWANYI IZZI' OR UKE GODDESS.The goddess statue existed about 300 years ago. She is believed by the Izzi people in Ebonyi State of Nigeria as a goddess that protected them from adversaries and also gave them fortunes such as good harvest, children and wealth. It was procured from the community head.
The statue is kept outside on the day of 'Uke'festival at the Uke Shrine before the new yam festivals. Annually, before the farming season, the whole town will gather together to appeal for fruitful and successful farming, with all kinds of music in a dancing competitions for the Izzi goddess. The same process is repeated during the harvest period.
The pointed breasts signifies the mother that breastfeeds the whole town. There is only one of this Izzi goddess in the whole town.
