Offered is a large vellum indenture relating to property between Henry Curwen, Lord of The Manor of Workington, of Workington Hall, and John Hudson, a whitesmith of Workington.
The indenture is signed and sealed by Curwen, with the wax seal intact.
It measures 76cm x 48cm and would make an impressive framed display piece.
The history of the Curwen family and Workington Hall is quite fascinating and worthy of further study, with links to Mary Queen of Scots, West Cumberland coal mines etc.
