RARE 1815 David Ramsay, ADS, April 8, 1815, along with Engraving of Dr. Ramsay.

Autograph Document Signed (ADS). Promissory note for $250.00 signed April 8, 1815, when he received from John Aikens of the Charters and Mechanics Bank. Fully penned in Ramsay\'s hand and signed both front and verso. Later countersigned by J. Pritchard on September 23, 1815 after Ramsay\'s death. Blind-stamp depicting American eagle over a shield bearing stars and stripes indicates a fee of twenty-five cents has been charged. A rare document signed by Ramsay exactly one month before his death by assassination.

The document is laid in a matte with the engraving of Ramsay above. The document itself has some, what appears to be, adhesive strips along the edges to hold it in place when framed/matted. When displayed you don\'t see it, but if unframed you would. A conservator could most likely remove them if you so desire.

David Ramsay(April 2, 1749– May 8, 1815) was an American physician, public official, and historian from Charleston, South Carolina.He was one of the first major historians of the American Revolutionary War.During the Revolution he served in the South Carolina legislature until he was captured by the British. After his release he served as a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1782–1783 and again in 1785–1786. Afterwards he served in the state House and Senate until retiring from public service. In 1803, Ramsay was elected a member of the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia.He was murdered in 1815 by a mentally ill man whom Ramsay had examined as a physician. He is the first American politician to be assassinated.
