This Curta calculator is in absolutely stunning state for its age, almost like a new one. it appears to have been barely used.

It isfrom the third year of production of the Type 2 series.

Its low serial number 505.649places its manufacturing date at April 1955.For this, it is necessary to know that the production of the Curta Type 2 seriesstarted in the year 1953 with serial number 500.000

This 69 years old Curta calculator is inperfect functional condition,which means

all levers, buttons and actions move as they should
it operates correctly in every way even with negative crank turns
the ten-carrying mechanism works correctly in every position of the carriage

the whole mechanism is smooth and effortless

This Curta calculator is an early, all metal Curta Type 2 without any plastic parts,meansthis Curta contains only metal parts,also the crank and clearing lever are made of metal.Later on, in the mid 1960s, the Type 2 were only suppliedwith plastic cranks and plastic clearing levers.

Curta calculators Type 2 from the first years of production were, in contrast to the later manufactured Curtas, all black like the Curta Type 1's.The grey body and the red keys came later.
This variant was produced only for a short period.As a result only about 10% of all Curta Type 2 ever made were all black and not many of them survived.This makes such a Curta particularly rare and especially sought after by collectors.

Curta calculators Type 2 were produced from 1953 through 1970 and continued to be sold until about 1972 when the new electronic pocket calculators came on the market and the Curta could no longer compete.However, it remains an important artifact of mid-20th century engineering and a testament to the ingenuity of its creator.Two different models of the Curta were produced. The Type 1 has a result capacity of 11 digits and the Type 2, which generates results to 15 digits. The Type 2 has an 11 column keyboard, 15 digit results and an 8 digit revolution counter. It is 2.6" in diameter by 3.6" long and weighs 12.5 oz.

The Curta was widely used by engineers, scientists, and mathematicians in the years following its release. Its compact design made it ideal for use in the field, and its reliability and accuracy made it a valuable tool for complex calculations.It was affectionately known as the "pepper grinder" or "peppermill" due to its shape and means of operation.It was also termed the math grenade due to its superficial resemblance to a certain type of hand grenade.
