This Alusi(Deity) came into existence between 1792 and 1794. The name is 'Nkwu Arusi' ,that is, a deity or god that was believed to beg for favour , protection, healing, victory and riches from more superior deities for their worshippers,with two hands stretched towards heaven. It was worshipped weekly. Animals such as native fowls, goats, and cows were offered to the deity as it demands from the worshippers through the chief priest. Those who worshipped it obey sets of rule such as not eating rice or drinking alcohol on Nkwo market day which is one out of the four Igbo market days ( Eke, Oye ,Afor and Nkwo). Most importantly, not having sexual relationships with widows or engaging in adultery.

This Alusi is one of the most significant antiquities in Igbo history. This is an Igbo ancestoral heritage and legacy.

It was bought from former owner,Mr Levi Okeke of Enugwu Ukwu , which is a large town in Anambra State of Nigeria. Enugwu-Ukwu town is geographically situated on hilly terrain; thus it was named after its geographical topography. It is predominantly occupied by the Igbo people of Anambra State.

It was displayed by a licensed vendor Chief J.C.Ogbaga at National Museum and Monument in Abuja,Nigerian State Capital many years ago.
