Original artwork by Steve Dillon to Preacher #2 (5/95), page 29. On this page we see the Jesse Custer, the "Duke", and the Saint of Killers. This is the only page in the entire series to have both the Duke and the Saint of Killers in it. The Duke scenes comprise the only moments of calm and normalcy in the insane reality of Jesse Custer. He made the weeks spent in the horrifying underwater coffin bearable, and he gave him critical advice and information throughout the series. The Saint of Killers is one of the most frightening but popular characters in Preacher, who even earned his own spin-off series. Art from early Preacher issues are especially sought after.
Preacher is one of the most important comic books of the 1990s. The instant cult-classic AMC show based on the comic, as well as Garth Ennis' extremely popular series The Boys, has expanded the base of Preacher fans and made original Steve Dillon artwork much more difficult to obtain.
