Pyotr I. Tchaikovskywas one of the greatest Russian composers of all time. At the age of only four Tchaikovsky was able to hear a piece of music, only once and replay it perfectly. After his parents witnessed his musical ability they allowed Tchaikovsky to take piano lessons. After just a short time, his piano teacher had to admit that he had become better than her. Tchaikovsky had an exceptional music talent, however he choose a career as a civil servant in the Russian Ministry of Justice. Despite his career with the Russian Ministry of Peace, Tchaikovsky's passion for music would lead him to study at the St. Petersburg Conservatory.The move to pursue his music had consequences. Tchaikovsky went through financial hardships as well as emotional distress from his strict and relentless mentor Anton Rubinstein. He produced several works from 1866 to 1877 that did not do as well as he had hoped. Even "Swan Lake", which is now known world wide, received bad reception. All the turmoil made Tchaikovsky obviously depressed however his musical spirit never strayed.In 1878 to 1884 he would compose several masterpieces that would launch his successful career such as "The Maid of Orleans", "Mazeppa", and most notably "Eugene Onegin". "Eugene Onegin" is based on an epic poem by Alexander Pushkin which launched Tchaikovsky's most successful years.Tchaikovsky has left behind several masterpieces which are still unrivalled today.
