HENRI MARC, Paris - EGYPTIAN REVIVAL, STATUESQUE and very imposing black 'slate'/rouge marble with patinated bronze detailing mantel clock.

The term "commands the room" can be suitably applied here, will happily sit with and not be in awe of the finest aesthetic period pieces.

Movement completely overhauled..stripped down + cleaned, springs replaced. Keeping time beautifully with deep/rich gong sound. Absolute pleasure to look at with perfectly balanced escapement moving effortlessly.

Pendulum not original, runs a few minutes fast per day.

This clock model was also retailed by Tiffany & Co - New York c.1880s, only difference being modified 'spires' and of course 'Tiffany & Co' script on clock face.

Henri Marc signed face and stamped on back of movement.

Late 19th century AESTHETIC MOVEMENT, BELLE ÉPOQUE period.

A statuesque piece approx 65 cm high and very heavy (30kg?). Clock and garniture all in one!!

The movement has a 5½" dial having a rouge marble chapter ring with applied gilt Roman numerals surrounding a scroll engraved gilt centre, visible Brocot style escapement + jewelled pallets fronting an eight-day spring-driven movement striking the hours/half hours on a coil gong.

An absolutely stunning piece of late 19th century exuberance, yet maintaing a stylistic restraint..

Very nice condition/patina..minor imperfections that can be expected from a piece of this age, missing 'XII' numeral on face.

Henri Marc has a reputation of producing monumental time pieces/automatons and this one certainly doesn't disappoint.
