An important seventeenth-century work of Italian Jewish history, written by Rabbi Dr. Yitzchak Chaim Cantarini (1644–1723), a prominent rabbi, physician, poet and eyewitness to the events described.

The book gives a detailed firsthand account of the attack on the Jewish ghetto of Padua on August 20, 1684. The Jews were falsely accused of supporting the Ottoman enemy during the siege of Buda, causing a Christian mob to attack and plunder the ghetto. A greater loss of life was prevented through the intervention of the local military commander and authorities.

The work contains copies and Hebrew translations of official documents from the governments of Padua and Venice, as well as important information regarding the internal life and population of the Jewish community.

Especially noteworthy is the fine engraved frontispiece depicting the Akeidas Yitzchak. The illustration alludes both to the author’s name, Yitzchak, and to the title Pachad Yitzchak. The title page is printed within an elaborate architectural border.

This was Cantarini’s first published book and remains one of the most important contemporary Hebrew accounts of Jewish life and persecution in seventeenth-century Italy.

תיאור מפורט ועדות אישית על ההתקפה נגד יהודי גטו פדובה ביום כ׳ באוגוסט 1684, בעקבות העלילה כי היהודים תמכו בטורקים בעת מלחמת בודה. בראש הספר תחריט נחושת נאה של עקידת יצחק, הרומז לשם המחבר ולשם הספר. עם רישומי בעלות עתיקים בעברית ובאיטלקית.
