Once in awhile some very interesting items will surface on and this is certainly one of them!!!
In Spring of 1971, the Miller Brewing Company started a sales campaign for their route drivers, to make beer displays out of their products in stores across the country. There were 4 separate contest periods with the grand prize being an all expense paid trip to the Super Bowl in Jan., 1972. I was a 22 yr old driver, working for a company called Quad County Distributing in Geneva, Illinois, about 60 miles west of Chicago. At that time, Miller had recently come up with their new phrase "If you have the time, we have the beer".
What you are viewing is the display that I designed (and my father paid to have it created), that won me the grand prize (and trip to the Super Bowl) for our region. Based upon my idea and design my father had an independent display company create and build the display you are viewing. Also note the extremely durable and custom shipping case that is included in this sale. The case alone measures approx. 74" tall and 2' square. I have not actually weighed both the crate and display, but I estimate them to be around 175 lbs.
The concept behind this display is a motorized "hour glass" that revolves back and forth approximately every 60 seconds. Inside the hourglass would have been beer colored water with a touch of soap suds to resemble beer going back and forth. Thus: "IF YOU HAVE THE TIME, WE HAVE THE BEER".
After I returned from the Super Bowl, I was invited up to the Miller Brewing Company in Milwaukee, with my display, hoping to recoup my father's expensive investment. But Miller felt it was too costly a display to reproduce as a point of sale (POS). The display itself measures approx. 66" tall and still works as the day it was built!

Note: No fluids have been in the hour glass since it was originally displayed. Thus you might encounter a leak should you decide to put fluid in the hour glass.
