My dad got this commemorative ceramic beer stein for the Hartford Whalers’ first home game played in the National Hockey League, October 19, 1979. Whalers 6, Los Angeles 3. Made by Lewis Bros. Ceramics Inc. of Trenton, NJ. This is number 22 of a 500 piece limited edition.The front displays the iconic original Hartford Whalers logo - the green “W” with the blue whale tail forming a hidden “H” - along with the team name. The reverse is inscribed with the full commemorative text and edition number. Gold luster banding at the mid-body and base. The original foil maker’s label is present on the base.The Hartford Whalers joined the NHL in the 1979–80 season following the WHA–NHL merger. They relocated to North Carolina in 1997, becoming the Carolina Hurricanes, making all original Whalers memorabilia highly sought after by collectors.Shows typical age-related crazing throughout the glaze and some light wear to the gold luster banding (both expected and entirely normal for ceramics of this era). No chips, no cracks, no damage. The logo and commemorative text are clean and vivid.5½ in tall
