OrientalistHand Painted Polychrome Terracotta Full-Length Sculpture
of a Moorish / Nubian North African Young Womenin Traditional Garments in a pensive or gesturing pose, standing barefoot on a textured,
earth/grass-like gilt base.

The piece represents Friedrich Goldscheider’s famous late-19th-century Orientalist period, celebrated for capturing North African and Middle Eastern subjects in lifelike, painted terracotta.

The skin is finished in a rich, dark brown patina characteristic of Goldscheider’s North African figures.

Dressed in a classic flowing, golden/ochre tunic with heavy vertical drapery folds, and subtle gilt accents, contrasted by a muted burgundy draped vest and a sage green multi-layered sash, decorated with horizontal bands, wrapped tightly around the waist with an ends hang off her left hip.

Her curly hair is gathered under a distinct, close-fitting textured round cap / skullcap (often referred to in Orientalist sculpture as a Chechia or Fez).
