Wong Chin Foo Autograph Circa 1876 / 1 of 1 / RARE

This item is priceless and maybe belongs in a museum, but I'm willing to hear offers to pay for my kid's soccer/baseball program fees...

This autograph book was the property of Mr. Henry S. Moyer,Historian & Author from Allentown, Pennsylvania. Signatures obtained by Mr. Moyer are circa1870s and include many of Moyer’s students and professors at Keystone NormalSchool, now known as Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA.

Inside contains approximately 54 autographs, however 2 most notable are: Wong Chin Foo -- and Wong Yuten, who came over from China as part of a delegation for the Centennial Exposition of 1876 in Philadelphia to celebrate the 100th anniversary signing of the Declaration of Independence. Mr. Yuten was honorary post man at the exhibition and his relationship with Wong Chin Foo was confirmed in the book "The First Chinese America" as well as other sources to corroborate the authenticity of this item.

In the book, "The First Chinese American: The Remarkable Life of Wong Chin Foo" by Scott Seligman is a section that explains the connection between Wong Chin Foo and Wong Yuten from 1876:
"His queue got him into one scrape in Reading, Pennsylvania. While he was walking with Wong Yuten (A Chinese man who had recently arrived as part of the Chinese delegation to the U.S. International Exposition in Philadelphia) A tall intoxicated passerby pulled on the braid. After the man followed them into their hotel shouting insults, Wong took an object and struck him behind the ear inflicting an ugly gash and drawing blood. Wong was arrested but the drunk did not appear in court, to accuse him the next day, and so he was Chin Foo (Chinese: 王清福; pinyin: Wáng Qīngfú; 1847-1898) was a Chinese-American activist, journalist, lecturer, and one of the most prolific Chinese writers in the San Francisco press of the 19th century. Wong, born in Jimo, Shandong Province, China, was among the first Chinese immigrants to be naturalized in 1873. Wong was dedicated to fighting for the equal rights of Chinese-Americans at the time of the Chinese Exclusion Act.[1][2] Nowadays Chinese-Americans consider Wong as the Chinese "Dr. Martin Luther King" because of Wong's tremendous efforts and huge sacrifices to defend Chinese-Americans' honor in that difficult time.
