This rare volume documents over three decades of naval service, spanning World War I, World War II, and postwar duty — from 1916 enlistment to his final retirement in 1948.

Biographical Note on John Slater Reed
John Slater Reed (1895–1966) of Lynn, Massachusetts, served honorably in both World War I and World War II. In the First World War he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, and by the Second World War he had advanced to the rank of Captain. His rare dual service across both global conflicts reflects a deep dedication to country and community. Beyond his military career, Reed was a lifelong resident of Lynn, Massachusetts. His surviving letters, notebooks, papers, and photo albums provide valuable genealogical and historical insight into the life of a New England officer whose experiences spanned the first half of the 20th century.
