new? completed June 17 2026. Scratch built from a 1/72 scale Heller plastic model kit for drafting the layout plans. Electric effects are LED cabin interior dome light strip powered by 4.5 volts or 3 AA batteries with a remote controller, 1.5 volt nose wheel landing light, 4.5 volt wing LED landing lights, 9 volt LED red & green wing tip light and a clear LED tail light, 9 volt LED top & bottom fuselage red flashing beacons, four 1.5 volt electric motors powered by 4.5 volts turn engine turbines slowly ( soon to upgrade to a nine volt battery ). Baggage slide out compartments hold the batteries. Front compartment has a 1.5 volt battery with a switch that operates the nose wheel light. Also in the front baggage compartment is the 4.5 volts for the motors and 4.5 volts for the landing lights. The rear baggage compartment holds the batteries for the flashing beacons, wing tip & tail lights, cabin dome lights. Two tiny switches in each wheel well. Switches for the motors and lights. Made from balsa wood covered with fiberglass. Smoothed with automotive fillers, covered with hardware store aluminum tape used for air condition ducting. Metal etching primer and automotive urethane finishes. 124 plastic windows. nose weight to keep the tail off the runway. HEAVY, really nice, something special. Historic tail number, first flight from New York to Miami. Me being cridical of my work would say not museum quality. Great looking at ten feet, not to be picked over with a magnifying glass. Still one of my best. 700 hours. Next one will be smaller. Made to be moved ( not shipped ) wing and fuselage separates with four screws, five wire connector unplug the two halves. The rudder plugs into the fuselage. Local pick up in Concord California. My last large Martin 130 flying boat the buyers flew to San Francisco, got a hotel, rented a car and away it went.
