KangXi:Great Emperor of the Qing Dynasty

Considered one of China’s greatestemperors, Kang Xi, the second emperor in the Qing dynasty brought long-termstability and prosperity after years of war and chaos. An accomplished militarystrategist and general, he pacified the Mongol hordes and brought the territoryunder Qing rule but his greatest accomplishments were cultural. Kang Xi was themastermind behind the Mountain Resort in Chengde, a classic masterpiece ofChinese palace architecture and one of the world’s largest royal gardensdesigned in the great imperial tradition. He also repaired and extended theGrand Canal that linked the Yellow River and Yangtze River, from Beijing to Hangzhou.But his greatest achievement was the creation of the standard Chinesedictionary or Kangxi Dictionary, during the 18th and 19th centuries,allowing for the development of literature, poetry and culture during the Qingdynasty and beyond.

·TheAu 750 solid gold cap of the LE89 is inspired by KangXi’s armour, feauturinggolden studs and shoulder flapson either side of the clip.

·ThePVD-coated clip is shaped like a ruyi sceptre, a curved, decorated objectsymbolising power and wealth, and it is adorned with a dragon’s head.

·Thetraditional Chinese red-lacquer cap top is crowned with the Montblanc emblemmade of Mother-of-pearl.

·TheEmperor KangXi was considered a skilled hunter. During hunting events only theEmperor could kill a tiger and it was viewed as a demonstration of bravery andskill of the imperial house. The birch used on the lower barrelis the wood traditionally associated with hunting bows in the Qing dynasty. Thesymbol of longevity and decorative lotus plants are carefully lasered onto thethin birch wood using ultraviolet technology to protect the surface of theprecious wood.

·Therevolving ring is made of tiger’s eye which recalls the thumb rings worn byarchers (round rod sleeve, 9.29 Ct, brown)

·ThePVD coated cone bears a lucky cloud pattern and is set with a citrine cabochon(1,17 ct, yellow).

·TheAu 750 solid gold handcrafted bicolourgold & black ruthenium nib refined with an engraving of a tiger’s head.

·Thelimited edition (89) refers to the fact that it took 89 years to build theChengde Mountain Resort

Nota bene: The Emperor Kang Xi isnot the first Asian historical figure for Montblanc, they previously had awriting instrument for Han Wu Ti, another Emperor.
