This wonderful new/old stock Paul folding knife is pre-Benchmade and pre Lone Wolf. This knife was made by Gerber and pre-dates the Lone Wolf years. This was made in 1974 and is the number 3 of 2500 made. This knife was presented to the NW sales rep for Gerber and Paul knives the year it was made. The details are in one of the photos. You won't need them if you know the Paul Knives. It has the unique opening and closing mechanism that, as far as I know, has never been copied or duplicated. Not even by the Chinese. Paul knives are out of production and highly collectible. See one, grab it, and hold on to it as the prices are increasing.
It comes with the original box and the owner said it has never been taken out of the box. Not even to examine. He asked that I not handle the knife for the photos or to play with it. So, you can rest assured thatthe knife has never been handled once it was placed in the box at the Gerber factory in 1974. That makes it stinking rare.
With the knife closed you hold the knife straight up-and-down, pinch the large button at the top of the body between your thumb and forefinger and the handle drops away to reveal the blade. That's about as well as I can describe the opening mechanism. When folded the back edge of the blade should be facing the webbing between your thumb and forefinger. Hope that helps. The knife is available for sale locally at Hawthorne Cutlery and local antique and knife shows in the Portland, OR area. Don't forget the huge Eugene knife show in April. Which has been cancelled.
