Authentic Robert Gage for Heifetz "Good Design" Model T-6-G Table Lamp, 1951 - Rare MCM Project
For sale is an exceptionally rare, authentic mid-century modern Model T-6-G table lamp designed by Robert Gage for the Heifetz Manufacturing Company in 1951. This iconic, highly interactive design was famously selected and featured in the landmark 1951 MoMA "Good Design" exhibition.
The lamp features its original enameled steel and brass structural rod frame supporting four pivoting colored lacquered Masonite panels. Each panel includes the distinct three-hole vertical adjustment configurations, allowing you to rotate and stack the panels to manipulate the light.
Photographs are part of the description. Happy to answer any questions or supply more photos upon request. I believe my father bought this lamp at a design show. He was a creative director during the madman era and was always buying quality mid-century design pieces.
Condition Report & Authenticity:
Frame & Panels: Excellent vintage structural condition. The white-enameled steel rods and brass components are sturdy. See photos for a related surface wear to the steel rods.
The lacquered Masonite panels show light, age-appropriate wear and minor scuffs but retain their structural integrity and adjust perfectly on the frame. Please view all photographs as they are part of the description and specifically note the red panel has significant discoloration due to its age and possibly fading from the sun.
Inner Shade: MISSING. Please note that the central, inner cylindrical fiberglass diffuser shade is not included. The lamp is being sold as-is as an excellent, highly viable restoration project for a collector or dealer.
Markings: The original paper Heifetz label is no longer present (common for this model), but authenticity is completely guaranteed by the specific three-hole panel geometry, materials, and frame construction.
Wiring: the original cord and switch mechanism were replaced. I have a cord that was replaced, it was spliced at some point, probably by my Dad who bought this lamp in the 1950s I presume.
