These are extremely rare original,(OOAK) one of a kind, WW1 Era large glass negative collection taken nearHelsingborgSweden in the early 1870s. The Northern European glass negatives are large format black and white negatives.The images are in landscape orientation and measure 5" X 7 1/4" and 4"X6"There are 32 (4"x6") glass negatives. There are 10 (5 X 7 1/4") glass negatives. Made of glass and dating back to the 1850s, these vintage negatives showcase Swedish Nobility in the early 1850s-1870s, family, and a cottage with the name "MARIAN HILL?" on the frontfacade. There are also pictures of severe flooding and destruction. Some of the glasses slide show damage around the edges due to age and storage but the most of the glass slides negatives are still in great condition. (One is cracked on the corner) There is identification on the glass slide sleeves that reads "Julius von Gekan Giv Ingenious HELSINGBORG" (See Photos). The collection was purchased from the personal collection of Kathleen Hughes and Stanley Rubin, a prominent Hollywood Couple. It is possible that these glass slides are were a part of their ancestry. We purchased the collection a few years ago from theKathleen Hughes and Stanley RubinHollywood Hills estate above the Sunset Strip in January of 2023. We will include the provenance card we received with the collection.
Information about Julius von Gekan:
"In 1891, Dunker's father Johan founded Helsingsborgs Gummifabrik AB. The rubber footwearproduced by the factory was of poor quality, so the younger Dunker travelled to Russia to learn how to produce better rubber.During a visit to Saint Petersburg, Russia, he did not find any new material, but in Riga, Latvia he met chemist Julius von Gerkan, who agreed to help him improve the rubber formula.His company was known for creating a rubber that was soft when cold but not sticky when the weather improved." -wikapedia
