The Number # 4 of 13 custom "Hero" knives created by master knifesmith Jimmy Lile in 1981 for Sylvester Stallone for the production of the classic action film First blood (Anabasis N.V., 1982).6 knives hand-forged in 440C high carbon stainless steel were reportedly shipped to Stallone to utilize on screen in his portrayal of "John Rambo."The intimidating knife measures 13.88-inches in overall length, with a 9-inch blade being 0.5-inches thick, and features 14 split-saw serrated teeth along its upper spine. The basic Bowie style clip point blade is finished in a flat, bead blasted grey, with polished edges. The custom blade crossguard, was designed and engineered with regular "Flathead" and "Phillips head" screwdrivers on either side, as a functional tool. The crossguard features two machined holes designed as "lashing holes" in order to attach lashes. With an original, production used lash still present tied to the knife. The hollow stainless steel hilt on the knife contains a waterproof compartment allowing for the storage of an emergency survival kit. The kit was designed to store survival gear and necessities such as fishing hooks & line and matches. The exterior of the hilt was hand-wrapped by Lile in thick, non-slip green nylon cord, designed to facilitate gripping the knife's handle, and to be unwoven as additional cordage for catching large fish or to create snares. The hollow grip (when empty) was designed to be mounted onto a shaft in order to create a makeshift spear or gig. The blade's ricasso area has been stamped / engraved and numbered by Lile: " 4 of 13 LILE ," and on the opposite side "FIRST blood. "Note: Lile made 13 knives for production, 6 of these were sent to Stallone for use during filming and Lile set aside 7 knives as back-up knives for the production. Stallone held onto 4 of the 6 knives that were sent to him for use during filming, as one was destroyed during production and another was gifted to a crewmember. That crew member being his stuntman Bob Sargent. Notice the personalized inscription to Bob.
This specific screen-used "Hero" knife has been archived by Stallone for over 39 years since the wrap of the film.
Being this is the # 4 Rambo knife, from the very first film in the franchise. The First blood knife's fixed blade design was made to fit a knife sheath which is included in this lot. The custom made brown leather sheath for the First blood knife features a snap-closure whetstone pouch on its front side. The sheath features a hole at its far end for a lanyard, designed to tie to the wearer's leg calf, which is still present. The reverse side of the sheath is stamped, "Jimmy Lile / The Arkansas Knifesmith / Russellville, Ark. / along with Sylvester Stallone personal inscription to Bob Sargent. " To Bob, May the First blood drawn be that of the enemy " Your friend Sylvester Stallone.
